About The HUB

The HUB Store Front

The Hub was founded in Pleasantville, New Jersey in 1954. It was appropriately named "The Hub", as it was at the center of one of the most popular shopping districts in the area at the time. Originally, the Army & Navy store was opened by Richard and Pearl Lichten, who were well known pillars of the community. Dick, as he was better known, catered to his customers with the motto "Regular, Big and Tall, We Fit Them All". It was the premiere place where both men and boys could find a selection of work and leisure wear appropriate for casual or dress. The store also provided durable uniforms and footwear for many local businesses, as well as many High School teams embroidered jackets.

In the late 1970's The Lichten's sold the store to Marvin Altman and Bob Atlas who operated the store as the Lichten's had until the sale of the business in 1981 to Fred Dodd. Fred, along with his wife Carol, continued in the tradition of the Lichten's by providing exceptional customer service, free alterations to pants and hassle free returns.

The location was then moved in 1985 to the Somers Point Shopping Center, once again located at the "Hub" of the shopping district in Somers Point, New Jersey. The original location in Pleasantville is no longer open, but the Dodd Family continues to proudly operate a business that has been a staple to the area for nearly 60 years.

About 20 years later, a second Hub location was opened in 2008 in the Mays Landing Plaza on Route 40. Since then, their accommodating staff have continued to provide easier access of workman's commerce to a larger regional customer base. The Hub now offers an online shopping experience as an added feature to the brick and mortar store.

You are welcome to stop in at either locations or shop on our website. See you soon!
